National Bank of Ukraine will hold a board meeting today, at which, probably, the issue of payment for imported gas will be discussed.
Thus, the Director of the Foreign Economic Relations Department of the National Bank of Ukraine Serhiy Kruhlyk, commenting on the information that President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko instructed the head of the National Bank to hold the board meeting today, noted that "the board meeting must be held” anyway without instructions.
However, answering the question whether officials are planning to consider the question of payment for gas at the meeting, Serhiy Kruhlyk said: "Probably, we will." The time of the meeting of the NBU Board was not specified, UNIAN reports.
As a reminder, on December 6 President Viktor Yushchenko instructed the Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Volodymyr Stelmakh to convene the NBU Board to solve the problems with payment for imported gas from Russia through purchase of securities of the government.
At the same time, today the Minister of Fuel and Energy Minister Yuri Prodan claimed that the country will pay on time for Russia's gas purchased in December 2009. According to him, the national stock company Naftogaz of Ukraine will pay open joint stock company Gazprom US $892 mn. He noted that there are no doubts that the payment will be held on time.
