Russia aims at Ukrainian uranium

Russia is ready to discuss a joint uranium production in Ukraine. The head of Rosatom Sergei Kirienko told about that in an interview with the Echo of Moscow radio station.

"In Ukraine there is uranium mining today. Although their main deposit, Novokostiantynivska, is not yet deployed, but a great amount of money is needed, and we can discuss the possibility of working together to deploy this deposit", - UNIAN cites Sergei Kirienko as saying.

"There is no concentration in Ukraine. And it will not be, because the concentration technology is the same dual-use technology, and there are international standards that prohibit its transfer to countries that did not have it" - he added.

According to the head of Rosatom, in this case it is possible to concentrate uranium on the Russian territory. "We can create and we are ready to discuss it with our Ukrainian partners - we can talk about a joint venture in which our Ukrainian partners can become owners, partners, shareholders of one of our processing plant", - said Sergei Kirienko.

He stressed that the plant will not move into the territory of Ukraine, but it will be Ukrainian plant partially. According to Sergei Kirienko, Ukraine may have access to the technology, which does not possess. However, he reminded that Ukraine is conducting a tender now.
