Yanukovych about Constitution, Cabinet, elections and price collusion


President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych gave an interview for 5th Channel on Wednesday, October 13.

In particular, he promised that the changes to the Constitution will be discussed in public.

The President of Ukraine promises further reductions in government. "For the present we will (reduce – editor.) the Cabinet of Ministers, then deputy Ministers will be reduced" - he said. According to the President, today the implementation of administrative reform aimed at regulating the government is very actual.

Election of deputies to the Verkhovna Rada and presidential election must be held in one and the same year. "I know that today the Parliament works until the end of September. It is proposed to work until late October. And as for President, he began to work in February. It is proposed to hold these elections every five years" - he said.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, many people should be involved into the process of amending the Constitution, particularly, politicians and public organizations.

The head of state has no information that the decree on the campaign is violated in the country. As a reminder, according to the decree of September 16, Viktor Yanukovych forbade the use of his name and image for campaigning before local elections to be held in Ukraine on October 31.

Viktor Yanukovych said that previously Ukraine had never invited international observers to be present at the local elections in the country.

He also said that none of his entourage presses on journalists and restricts freedom of speech. "Show me these people. If they really exist he will not work in public service" - the President said.

The Head of the state instructed to deal with increasing of food prices. In particular, the President instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to find means, "which would stabilize the prices on the market." "Maybe there is some conspiracy. You need to involve the Antimonopoly Committee and find out" - Viktor Yanukovych said.

Decisions taken by the Ministry of Education about paid services in the universities did not take into account the interests of young people, said the President of Ukraine.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, he discussed the issue with Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. The head of the government said that "not the government of Azarov but the previous government made a decision about it". In addition, the President believes that such innovations should be considered and introduced before the start of the school year and not during the study, that caused discontent among the students.
