One of the tasks of today's extraordinary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which was set by the faction Party of Regions, is completed: Interior Minister Yuri Lutsenko is dismissed.

231 MPs voted for this, approving the bill number 6006, introduced by the First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Lavrynovych (faction of the Party of Regions). In particular, 171 MPs voted from the Party of Regions, 1 - from the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc (BYuT), 11 – from the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense, 27 – from the Communist Party of Ukraine, 19 - from the Lytvyn Bloc and 2 – out of factions.

Before voting for the resignation of Yuri Lutsenko the Verkhovna Rada decided not to discuss reports of the Minister of Interior and Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko - only 187 MPs approved it (Party of Regions - 0, BYuT - 150, Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense - 36, Communist Party of Ukraine - 0, Lytvyn Bloc- 0, out of factions - 1).

01:19 pm MP from the Party of Regions Nestor Shufrych told Interior Minister Yuri Lutsenko "Good-bye" and stressed that the application against former Minister will be filed to the General Prosecutor's Office shortly.

The Presidential Secretariat admits the formation of the new majority in the Verkhovna Rada, said the deputy head of the Presidential Secretariat, Permanent Representative of the President in the Verkhovna Rada Ihor Popov.

MP from BYuT faction Serhiy Mishchenko did not rule out that the Head of the Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry in the Crimea Hennady Moskal might be appointed as the acting head of the Interior Ministry. "The dismissal of Lutsenko is a political reprisal, and there is no doubt that after this the Party of Regions will organize large-scale rigging in the second round of presidential elections in Ukraine. They did it in 2004 with the help of police, and we now are expecting for the same scenario," claimed MP from the BYuT.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko claimed during the trip to Kherson that Yuri Lutsenko will be appointed as the First Deputy Minister of Interior.

03:08 pm The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed Yuri Lutsenko as an Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, told a source in the Cabinet. According to the source, the Cabinet introduced the post of Deputy Minister of Interior for this.

The source reminded that parliament appoints the Minister, and the Cabinet appoints the Deputy Minister. "That is why Lutsenko will serve as Minister in the status of first deputy," - RBC-Ukraine cites him as saying.

03:17 pm Yuri Lutsenko has confirmed his appointment as the first Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

As the First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov claimed, the decision on the appointment of Yuri Lutsenko as an Acting Chairman of the Ministers of Interior was made unanimously. In his opinion, the parliament had no grounds for adopting a regulation on the dismissal of Yuri Lutsenko. According to Turchynov, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Yuri Lutsenko to destabilize the situation in the country and to increase the possibility of falsification in the second round of elections.
