World Championship 2010: Ukrainian wrestlers won first medal

At the World Wrestling Championship, which started yesterday, on September 6 in Moscow, the Greco-Roman wrestler Armen Vardanian won the first medal for Ukraine – silver one.

Yesterday, on September 6, Moscow hosted the first day of World Wrestling Championship. The Greco-Roman wrestlers were the first who started the competition, writes Korrespondent.

In the weight category up to 66 kg Ukrainian Armen Vardanian took part in the Championship. Our fighter gained a victory over Frenchman Steve Francois Fabien Zino 2-1 (1-0, 0-1, 1-0) and Serbian Alexander Maksimovic 2-1 (0-1, 1-0, 1 - 0). In the quarterfinals, Armen Vardanian was stronger than the American Faruk Sakhin 2-0 (2-0, 1-0), and in the semi final he was able to break the resistance of Vasif Arzimanov from Turkey 2-1 (0-1, 1-0, 1-0). In the main fight of the tournament, Armen Vardanian fought with the Russian Ambak Vachadze. At the end the referees told the Russian wrestler won 0-2 (0-1, 0-2).

In the weight category up to 55 kg Ukrainian Viuhar Rahymov, unfortunately, lost in the fight with Azerbaijani Elchin Aliev 0-2 (0-2, 0-2). Iranian Hamid Mohammad Sorian Reyhapur won the title of the world champion in this weight category.

On the first day of competition representatives of weight category up to 96 kg were the last. Ukrainian Oleh Krioka fought there. After winning the first fight with Sargis Tonoyan 2-1 (4-0, 0-6, 3-0), Oleh Krioka lost in the fight with Romanian Robert Alexander Papp 1-2 (0-1, 2-0, 1-4 ).
