Somali pirates have attacked the Pistis, a Greek bulk cargo ship that was en route from the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa to Taiwan, in the Arabian Sea 300 miles off the coast of India.
On November 28, the vessel was attacked by a skiff with four pirates armed with AK-47 Kalashnikov rifles.
The ship's captain gathered the crew on the bridge and reported the attack through all forms of communication, the ship started to take evasive maneuvers and the board of the bulk carrier was protected by barbed wire. The pirates realized that the vessel would not be an easy target and rather quickly stopped the attack. None of the sailors were injured in the attack. The crew consisted of 35 people: 29 citizens of Ukraine, two Russians, and four citizens of Philippines, UKRINFORM reported, with reference to Sovfracht Maritime Bulletin.
The Pistis is a Liberian-flagged vessel operated by Greece's Larus S.A.
