Experts believe that influenza A/N1N1 is a "gating mechanism" for diabetes. Chairman of Ukrainian Diabetes Federation Valentyna Ocheretenko reported that up to 80 percents of patients with influenza A/N1N1 belong to the categories susceptible to illness: pregnant women, patients with diabetes mellitus, cardio-pulmonary and neurological disorders.
According to her, influenza leads to a weakening of immunity, and this, in turn, might become the stage for the development of diabetes, and conversely, people with diabetes are susceptible to the virus A/N1N1.
04:00 p.m. In addition to nine areas in which the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine announced quarantine, restrictive anti-epidemic quarantine measures are imposed in the Donetsk, Zhytomir, Kyiv, Kirovograd, Luhansk, Poltava and Chernihiv Regions, told the chief sanitary doctor Oleksandr Bilovol today at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers, MIGnews.com.ua correspondent reports.
According to Oleksandr Bilovol, eastern regions have reached epidemic threshold, while in the Ternopil Region the incidence and number of visits to doctors decreased.
The chief sanitary doctor of the country paid attention to the fact that due to the holidays people did not go to hospital, and that is why the number of hospitalized today has increased by almost 30,000. Two days ago it was 62,359 people, to date – 90,592. As for Kyiv, then, according to Oleksandr Bilovol, 7,850 people became ill in Kyiv, and in general 85 cases of Californian influenza were found, 14 people died from the disease.
In connection with a situation, the chief sanitary doctor of the country appealed to the entire leadership of Ukraine, including the President, asking not just to turn to the issue of vaccination, but begin the process. According to Oleksandr Bilovol, vaccination will be voluntary and free. In addition, the so-called risk groups need vaccination first of all: the staff of medical institutions, children from 6 months to 11 years old and pregnant women.
