Verkhovna Rada “Pressing” CEC Down
The Head of the Central election commission (CEC) Yaroslav Davydovich supposes that there is need to change legislation in Ukraine. Davydovich noted that it is impossible to hold special election of the Verkhovna Rada without alterations in the election legislation in Ukraine. According to him, procedure of holding special election is very complicated from legislative point of view. “It is almost impossible to hold it without alterations in the law”, the CEC head added. He noted if decision to hold election is made, the CEC will search way-out in this situation. According to Davydovich, special election will cost UAH 355 mn, Ukrainskaya pravda reports.At the same time chairman of the Central election commission supposes draft decree of the Verkhovna Rada on recognition illegal current CEC staff as the attempt to press commission down. As Department on cooperation with mass-media in the Secretariat of the Central election commission informed, Davydovich is sure “this deputy initiative has no outlook”. “If you do remember, interim alterations were approved to the Law “On Election of the President of Ukraine” before approval of the CEC new staff where it was written – to examine question about formation of the Central election commission. So CEC new staff had been formed according to acting legislation. One of CEC members appealed this decision in all court instances including Supreme Court and lost it. This decree is one more proof of pressing on CEC”, he said.The CEC chairman said situations with voting in Parliament on resignations of heads of the Interior Ministry and Foreign Ministry with probable adoption of draft decree concerning CEC were incomparable. As a reminder, “people’s deputies from the Party of regions faction proposed the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to cancel Decree “On appointment of members of the Central election commission”. Appropriate bill was registered in the Parliament on December, 15 2006, liga informs. |
