The first stage of the presidential election campaign, which will be held on January 17, 2010, is coming to an end today. 6th of November is the last day, when those, who desire to take part in the elections, may submit their nomination.
The main participants of the race have already submitted documents to the Central election commission for the registration and even they have received a certificate of candidates for President. Reception of documents together with a cash pledge of US $2.5 mn will last until November 9 inclusively. The commission will hold registration until 13 November inclusively.
To date Ukraine's Central Election Commission registered 14 candidates for the President of Ukraine. Among them, in particular, the favorite of the race is a leader of Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych and his closest rival is Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. As for current President Viktor Yushchenko, he also participates in the elections.
MP Inna Bohoslovska (out of faction), the leader of the Party of Free Democrats Mykhaylo Brodsky, MP from Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense Anatoly Hrytsenko, the leader of the Ukrainian People's Party Yuri Kostenko, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and leader of the People's Party Volodymyr Lytvyn, member of faction Bloc "Civil activists of Kyiv” Oleksandr Pabat, lawyer Oleg Riabokon, chief communist of Ukraine Petro Symonenko, businessman Serhiy Tyhypko, leader of the All-Ukrainian Union Liberty Oleg Tyahnybok, MP from Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense and the leader of Front of changes Arseny Yatsenyuk have been registered as candidates for President.
Vasyl Protyvsikh will struggle also for the post of President. He filed documents to the Central election commission and is currently awaiting for registration as a candidate for the President of Ukraine.
According to the majority of experts, the main struggle will be between Viktor Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko. According to recent polls, Viktor Yanukoyich will gain 25-3o percents in the first round of elections, which is by 10-12 percents more than Yulia Tymoshenko will have. Sociologists believe that the leader of the Party of Regions would win also in the case of the second round, which is inevitable, as none of potential candidates receives 50 percents plus one vote.
However, political scientists are not confident completely in the outcome of elections. Today up to 25 percents of voters do not know how they will vote. Besides, judging by the situation in the country, a future presidential candidate Vasyl Protyvsikh, who goes to the elections as a new political force with the slogan "PROTYVSIKH For life without YA and YU” might cause a real sensation and unite a large number of people. This is confirmed by the fact that already at least 20 percents of respondents informed MIGnews.com.ua that they would vote immediately for such slogan. By reports of Korrespondent
