The suspect of the murder of a man slaughtered 25-year-old sergeant of police at the isolation ward Evhen Pelykh while duty in Lubny, Poltava Region. This is stated in the Chief Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Poltava Region.

Pelykh together with a psychiatric nurse of the Lubny central hospital accompanied a suspect in the murder of a resident of Luben to the Poltava regional psychiatric hospital for examination. During the escort of the patient to the ambulance car, at the exit from the premises, the detainee suddenly caught a kitchen knife and struck him in the chest of the sergeant.

Immediately after the attack the detainee escaped from the scene and the injured policeman was hospitalized. Evhen Pelykh died from injuries in hospital, the Ukrainian News reported.

As a result of operational search activities the police detained the violator. The Lubny district prosecutor's office opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 15, p.1 article 115 of the Criminal Code (murderous assault). Investigation is being carried out.
